Puppy Kindergarten Graduation

So we have been terrible at keeping up on our posts lately. But we thought we would try to catch you up on our lives.

We have decided to take a break from our house projects. Truly, there has been a halt to everything home improvement related. We needed a break. However, we will probably resume our crazy home projects once Ryan finishes this semester. In the meantime we have half painted walls and piles of junk in our backyard. Sometimes it is better to enjoy life than to fill every second of it with things to do.

We joined a gym. I never thought I would join a gym, but it has been wonderful. It is the one time during the day when I am honestly focusing on myself. I get up at 5:45 am every morning (except weekends) and make it to the gym by 6:00am. I love it because I feel more motivated during the day and have felt a ton better about myself. It is crazy what a little bit of exercise and some endorphins will do for your mood. Ryan also goes to the gym a couple of times a week. However, his primary purpose is to get in shape for the Davis family race this summer. He is planning on beating Sarah at her own game. Good luck babe, she will be tough to beat.

Today our cute little pup graduated from puppy kindergarten. She has loved being in a class with other dogs, and since she is one of the youngest everyone loves her. She is so cute that she wins them all over. The graduation today went pretty well, but Dity did not want to wear the graduation cap. She kind of freaked out.

This is the best picture we were able to get. This is Dity wearing a graduation cap under protest. She was not happy, but we got a picture. We are hoping to get her into an intermediate class where she can test for a National Good Canine Certification. We have decided that this is the best time to spend the time to train our dog to be a good dog. Hopefully it will help her to be an excellent dog when we have kids. She is a cutie.

We love you all. We have been so blessed to travel and visit with family the past few weeks. It has been so much fun spending time with all of you.

Our Dog is a Cat

Over the past month we have noticed that our dog is a scaredy cat. Just for a quick Friday pick-me-up, we thought we would share with you some of the funny things our dog is afraid of. These are in no particular order. . .

The vacuum when it is running
The vacuum when it is not running
Broom
the sound of our furnace switching on
A punched punching bag (or even just a swinging punching bag)
The can opener
Our stove vent
the mail man (although to be fair, it is difficult to decide if she is afraid, or just ballistic when he walks by)
baths
her brush
an ice filled root beer drink from Arby's
cars driving by
humans walking by
big dogs (they tower over her)
little dogs (they go crazy trying to be her friend, which she doesn't want to do)
medium sized dogs (who knows why)
any other kind of dog
kids that try to pet her in petsmart
adults that try to pet her in petsmart
wind that shakes our screen door loose so it makes a sound
our piano

So, for now that wraps up our list. I'm sure we will be adding to it as the weeks go by, but we are hoping not. Just for fun, I'll include a list of things that she likes to carry around in her mouth, and sometimes carry away to a dark corner to chew on.

Socks
Carrots
Doggie treats
cardboard pieces
poo (only once, but still disgusting)
her ball
anything else that will fit.

Happy Friday.

New Floors and Puppy Pee

The past three months have been super busy for us. That being said, we are about to make up for it with a massive download of information for you. Good luck.

December started off with a bang. We demo'd lots of nasty paneling and wallpaper in our living room and kitchen. With that came lots of dust, dirt, and hard work. We removed paneling only to discover that we only had 3/4 of a wall. Thus, we sheet rocked, textured, painted, and added wainscoting under the chair rail in our living room. It was a lot of work but we were able to finish most of it before Christmas came along. Which brings us to Christmas . . .

Christmas was another whirlwind affair with Ryan waking up at 4:00 Christmas morning. That same afternoon we left Idaho Falls to go visit family. We were gone until we had to be back for school and work.

Our Christmas loot.
Ryan loves his golf clubs!

Ryan made this canopy bed for me from bamboo poles. Isn't he creative?? It looks very good all finished.

The very same week we returned from our Christmas adventure, we decided to jump into our next big project. It was crazy, but we wanted to have our floors finished before we were to get our brand new puppy in February. So we spent a few days moving things out of our kitchen and demo'ing the floor. We spent almost two weeks living, (and eating) in our living room. We had a microwave, our fridge, and even our kitchen table in the living room while we completed the wood floors in our kitchen. Thankfully we received a deep fryer for Christmas (from my lovely sister and her husband) so we ate a lot of fried corn dogs that week. Just like most of our projects, it took a lot longer than we expected. We spent a total of two weeks on just our kitchen floors (there was more to come). We also discovered that fifteen hour days putting in wood flooring is a bad idea. Just try it, you will see.

Nailing in the kitchen floors.

Ryan got kicked from the table saw. He wasn't wearing any safety glasses (tsk, tsk), thankfully it just got his lip.
Sanding the wood floors.Finished floors. . . much better.
Once we finished our kitchen, we were able to move back in(and eat food from real plates instead of paper plates). We then spent the next week packing all of our furniture from the upstairs of our home into our basement. It is amazing that we can fit everything we own into just a couple rooms. Next came the lovely task of sanding, staining, and applying polyurethane to our floors. Luckily we decided to take our time with this project. We had learned our lesson from the kitchen. We finally finished our upstairs the day before we got our new puppy.

Refinished wood floors in the living room.

So, we would like to introduce you to Dite. Well, Aphrodite. We were going to call her Aphro, but thought it would be too mean so we call her Dite, or just puppy, or bad dog. It really depends on how bad she is at the moment. But we love her. She is cute, even if she has already broken in our new wood floors with plenty of puppy pee, slobber, and mess. We hope you all get to meet her and her craziness soon.

We are currently moving our furniture back into the upstairs so if anyone feels like making a trip to Idaho, we would love to see you, and so will Dite.
