Summer and 21 Months (AKA Almost 2)

This summer has been flying by! We've had Young Men campouts, major family sickness, planning for an upcoming stake trek, a work conference, and more this summer. It has been a crazy summer already, and we still have 2 family reunions and a week-long trek coming up. Add to that Ryan and I have both been working this summer and we have a crazy 21 month little boy, life has been a little insane--but absolutely wonderful. Instead of hashing out everything our boy is doing like I normally do, I thought I'd try something new. The day we finally decided to adopt (March 8, 2012) I started keeping a journal for our future child (who eventually became Sam). It has been a wonderful experience for me to document the adoption process, my feelings on being Sam's mother, and the wonderful little things Sam is doing. I thought I'd share my most recent entry with you today. It sums up how Sam is doing these days.

Sammy,

You are an adorable, active, curious (very curious), and sweet almost 2 year old. You are constantly making me laugh. You are talking so much more. You will pick up my phone and say, "Hewow?" It is very sweet. You can point to and name most of your body parts. You love playing in water, but don't like it splashed in your face.

Your eating habits surprise me constantly. You don't like candy much, but you will occasionally eat sour candies like Sweet Tarts and Bottle Caps (one of my favorites). When given the choice between fruit and cake you'll always choose fruit. You polished off half a bowl of my wheaties cereal the other day, but won't eat daddy's (very yummy) peanut butter cup cereal. You like to beg for certain foods (watermelon, wheaties) if I'm eating in front of you, and I can't resist your cute face when you say "more" or "peas" (aka please).

You were sick recently and, you'll be happy to note that like most men, you are a terrible patient. You threw up in my kitchen, your bed, my bed, on the carpet downstairs and anywhere else inconvenient you can imagine. You didn't have a stomach bug, you just would cough so hard you'd puke. Speaking of puking, you get car sick. After weeks of traveling back and forth to Utah, I can confirm this by the number of times you have blown chunks on the backseat of our new car. I sure hope you outgrow the carsick thing. The good news is that we get to turn around your car seat when you turn two.

You love your daddy, Kung Fu Panda, being outside, puppies, and your blankies---especially one your Grandma Kiesel made that is shaped like a bear. You say, "rawr" every time we cover you with it at bedtime. Sam, you are adored and loved so very much. We couldn't ask for a happier or funnier kid.

Love, Mom

And now . . . pictures!
